What you should know about MASSAGE NEW ZEALAND
Massage New Zealand MNZ is the only massage therapy specific membership body in New Zealand for professional Massage Therapists. This section focuses on the practice of massage therapy as a stand alone therapy by a Massage Therapist or massage practitioner. The practice of massage therapy involves more than applying massage techniques. Massage New Zealand MNZ is the only massage therapy specific membership body in New Zealand for professional Massage Therapists.
MNZ registered Massage Therapists choose to belong to a self regulating professional body which upholds professional and ethical standards in massage therapy practice. 2015 Barry Vautier Presented for his longstanding service to MNZ on the Executive Committee and in non Executive positions, and for his service to massage education. Massage New Zealand may award Life Membership to a current MNZ member who, in the opinion of the organisation has made an exceptional contribution to Massage New Zealand and or the field of therapeutic massage. When you visit your Massage Therapist for the first time, they will talk with you about your general health and ask you what you would like to achieve from the massage therapy session.
The approaches selected will depend on the therapist’s scope of practice and your session goals. If you are concerned about the massage therapy treatment session that you received, then you can make a complaint. MNZ offers a range of advertising options that will help you to target professionally trained Massage Therapists directly. It establishes the rights, powers and duties of the Executive Committee, sub committee, non executive posts and those of its members.
MNZ has a complaints procedure that assists us in considering and managing complaints made by clients about MNZ members. The MNZ Complaints Officer can look into issues relating to maltreatment, unethical behaviour or physically dangerous practice, therapists working outside of their scope of practice, and business advertisement concerns. MNZ has four levels of registered Massage Therapist membership and they have their own scopes of practice. A current annual practising certificate indicates that your therapist has met the membership and educational requirements of MNZ and is deemed by MNZ to be a Registered Massage Therapist at the appropriate designated level.

I was working as a therapist in the UK and upon returning to New Zealand in 2009 set up my own clinic in Papamoa, Bay of Plenty, treating clients from all walks of life. Within this organisation I was involved in many roles including Education Committee member, Regional Representative, Conference organising committees.
All the while also setting up three busy clinics in Wellington and employing therapists we were training. Being a member of MNZ has always helped me to feel part of a community of Massage Therapists, helping to keep us safe, informed and always continuing to learn. Massage New Zealand MNZ is the only massage therapy specific membership body in New Zealand for professional Massage Therapists. Affiliates receive a 15 discount on advertising and a free listing on the MNZ website
